Win at 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards!

Posted by NicoleRubin on September 25, 2015

Thursday evening was a night to remember as the Pacific Gala brought together the region's top 30 entrepreneurs for the 22nd annual EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards!  Steve Troyer was nominated earlier this year for the award and discovered he was a finalist for the Business Services category when finalists were announced in July.  Last night, we are excited and proud to announce, that Ernst & Young selected him to receive the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Business Services!

In an interview with BC Business, Steve discussed the early days (Story found here:(http://www.bcbusiness.ca/careers/entrepreneur-of-the-year-2015-business-services-finalists)

"Steve Troyer got his first taste of hard work training as a farrier while still in high school. “We were turning horses feet, putting shoes on them and going to racetracks and trying to figure out how to make them run better,” says the 42-year-old Yukon native, who moved south to Fort St. John in his early 20s. In search of a new career—one that would be less taxing on his back—Troyer decided one day to go to a local oil-and-gas trade show, just as the industry was taking off in the northeast. “While I was there, I got talking to a slick truck salesman, and he told me that if I wanted to build a steam truck with a pressure washer, I’d be busy every day of the year.”

Troyer bought the truck, and while he says he almost went broke that first year, things eventually turned around. In time, one truck turned into two, and two became three; today Troyer Ventures Ltd. boasts a fleet of 100 trucks that transport waste liquids produced from oil and gas extraction for customers ranging from Shell to Encana to CN Rail. Troyer now has two B.C. offices in Fort St. John and Fort Nelson, as well as three in Alberta, with the company’s fortunes tracking those of B.C.’s natural gas sector. But he’s reticent to call his company a success. “We’ve managed to get through this far, and work with a lot of great people, but I don’t know if it’s a success yet. We’ve got plenty of room to grow.”

A note from Steve:  “It was a profound honor to be awarded 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year in Vancouver last night.  In my acceptance, I acknowledged that any success as an entrepreneur depends on the dedication and support of many others, including all those that work at Troyer, many suppliers and service providers, and of course our loyal customers who have supported us for many years.  Thank you to each one for your part in building our company.”

Congratulations, Steve!

Wow,
A huge congratulations to you and your team Steve. I have to be honest by saying that I am not surprised that you and your group won an award like this. One realizes quickly that along with the business part of things there is a very human side to your company that is rare and sets you apart. Great to see that acknowledged.
